The staff at the Co-op in Builth Wells have recently chosen their three causes for 2023 in their Local Community Fund scheme.

Builth Road Community Group and Cylch Yn Yr Ysgol are two of the causes which will benefit from the scheme.

As reported in this week’s Brecon and Radnor Express and online, Builth Bike Bash is the third recipient of the fund scheme.

Stuart Williams, store manager at the Builth Wells Co-op store on Brecon Road, said “It was a really tough decision this year, as 10 causes had applied and were shortlisted.

“The staff here then voted, and three very worthwhile causes chosen - Builth Bike Bash Pump Track, Builth Road Community Group and Cylch Yn Yr Ysgol pre-school.

“We felt that all three could make a real difference in the community.”

The Local Community Fund scheme donates 1p of every pound spent on Co-op branded goods towards the causes. If you are a Co-op member, you can choose which cause you’d like to support.

As well as helping the community, members receive 2p for every pound spent on Co-op branded goods which they can spend in-store, as well as receiving weekly offers.

Mr Williams added: “It’s a win-win as far as I can see. Our shoppers benefit, as well as some great causes in our local community.”

Builth Bike Bash is a charity that encourages and enables more people to cycle in the local area. They will be using the funds raised to install a permanent fixed tool station at their pump track.

Builth Road Community Group want to use the funds to make repairs and maintain their children’s play area, in order to create a safe environment for the children to play in.

Cylch Yn Yr Ysgol pre-school will be allocating the funds raised in the scheme to extend opportunities for children to learn outside, deliver Forest School sessions and the development of an outdoor play area, kitchen garden and classroom.
