The Powys village of Three Cocks was censored in the official online listings for the Ras Ieuenctid De Cymru – Junior Race of South Wales.

British Cycling’s website replaces the second half of the village’s name with asterisks in the event summary for stages one and two of the national junior road race series, which took place over the August Bank Holiday weekend.

The Beicio Cymru website, which also lists the race, shows the village name in full.

Stage 1 was a 76km sprint circuit in Three Cocks, Stage 2 a 10km individual time trial in the same village. Stage 3 covered 106km in Monmouthshire with two sprint and two King of the Mountain prime locations, and Stage 4 was a 112km climbers’ road stage starting in Brynmawr and finishing in Raglan, featuring multiple climbs including Coldharbour and Blackrock.

A British Cycling Spokesperson said: “We apologise for this accidental censorship which was caused by some overly sensitive filters on our website. Clearly the system decided, inappropriately, to spare our blushes and auto censored the historic Three Cocks village from the Junior Race of South Wales.

“Whilst it’s great to see this fantastic event getting such national attention, we’ll be having a serious look at the new systems we’re implementing to ensure that technology doesn’t override common sense in future!”
