ONE-year-old Tommy Eckley, from Glasbury-on-Wye, followed in his great-grandfather Tom’s footsteps when his Clun Forest Sheep won the championship at the recent Shropshire County Show. 

Tom Eckley, showed at the same show from the 1930s through until the 1970s, winning the championship on many occasions.

In 2018 the family returned to the show and their sheep, which were shown by Tommy’s dad, Mike, won two firsts, Male, Female & Breed Championship in the Any Other Native Breed Section.

Mike said: “It was nice to follow in my grandad’s (Tom’s) footsteps and it was a bonus to do so well. I’m sure he was looking down on Tommy with a smile. 

“We have been quite successful over the years and it’s great that Tommy won in his first official show as an owner.”
