The full route for the Tour of Britain Women’s Powys stage has been revealed, with riders set to tackle some of the county’s toughest climbs on the way from Llanidloes to Hay-on-Wye.

Stage four of the race will take place on Saturday, August 22, forming part of a two-day Welsh double-header before the event concludes in England.

The 138km stage will be the toughest of the 2026 race in terms of climbing, with riders facing a total ascent of 2,484 metres as they cross the Powys landscape.

Starting in Llanidloes, the route heads south to Rhayader before taking in the Elan Valley, where riders will face the toughest climb of the day – a 5.3km ascent with an average gradient of five per cent and sections reaching around 10 per cent.

The race will then return through Rhayader before continuing east through the hills around Nantmel, Crossgates and Bleddfa.

Riders will later pass through Knighton, crossing the River Teme before heading through Norton, Gladestry and Painscastle on the way to the finish in Hay-on-Wye.

The event will bring some of the world’s leading female cyclists to Powys as part of a route which also takes in Cumbria, Lancashire, Flintshire, Denbighshire, Conwy and Warwickshire.

Jonathan Day, Director of Events for British Cycling Ventures, said: “Announcing the route is one of the key milestones in the build-up to the Lloyds Tour of Britain Women, as it gives riders, teams and fans their first real insight into how this year’s race could unfold. We have put together a course that provides opportunities for a range of different rider types to try and challenge for the title, ensuring every stage has the potential to shape the overall outcome.

“Beyond the sporting challenge, the route reflects our ambition to bring elite women’s cycling to the diverse communities across Britain. Each stage will showcase a different part of the country and provide fans with the chance to experience world-class racing on their doorstep. We are excited to see the race come to life and to welcome spectators to what promises to be a fantastic edition of the Lloyds Tour of Britain Women.”
