Georgia Lloyd, a 20-year-old from Glasbury, has been named a finalist for the 2026 Miss Wales competition.

Training as a nurse, she hopes her participation can inspire more young people to pursue careers in the NHS.

“I never expected to be a finalist,” she told the Brecon and Radnor Express.

“It was a huge shock when I got the email confirming my place as I’d never done anything like it before. However, it’s been a lot of fun so far and I’m really excited for the other opportunities it holds. I would recommend the experience to anyone.

“Being a finalist is a lot of fun. I’ve met so many new people (including Miss World and Miss United Kingdom!) and a lot of new friendships have been made. It’s been really nice to share what I love doing and go to everyone’s charity events.”

Georgia is the only Miss Wales finalist from the Brecon and Radnorshire area. She applied to be a Miss Wales finalist after being recommended to do so by a few people.

“I thought it would be a good idea since I wanted to start taking more risks, meet new people, and start showing people my genuine love for what I do,” she said.

“A lot of my intention for joining is centred around inspiring more young people to consider healthcare careers, including in schools and online. Not enough applications are made and it really is the most inspiring aspect of my life. Often it is painted so negatively, so my main reason for applying was to show young people the skills and reward that comes from these careers.”

The Miss Wales 2026 final will take place on April 18 at The Riverfront in Newport. The three-day event includes an empowerment day, an interview with the judges, a charity ball, and the final stage round, where contestants will compete for the national crown.

Between now and next April, Georgia and the other finalists are asked to raise as much money as possible for ‘A-Sisterhood’, a UK-based organisation that empowers, supports and protects women worldwide, and ‘Beauty with a Purpose’, the charitable arm of the Miss World pageant. They will also advocate for a cause close to their hearts.

“I chose to promote healthcare careers as I am a student nurse with a huge passion for encouraging others to choose healthcare fields,” said Georgia.

“These occupations are always so important.”

The winner of Miss Wales will gain entry to the Miss World competition.

Talking about Miss Wales further and its public perception, Georgia said: “I would recommend Miss Wales to anyone as it is such a friendly and fun environment.

“I feel like girls from rural areas like myself often get overlooked or don’t consider these opportunities as much as others. However, it’s a fun, inclusive experience which anyone is welcome to.”

“It celebrates individuality, and I would love to be able to capture that impression as a finalist and inspire others to take part,” she said.
