Brecon Mountain Railway is delighted to announce the return of its popular Winter Diesel Week, running from 14–22 February 2026, during the February half-term holiday.
This unique seasonal event offers visitors a rare opportunity to enjoy heritage diesel-powered train journeys through the dramatic winter landscapes of the Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park.
With the railway’s steam locomotives undergoing essential winter maintenance, the spotlight falls on its fleet of robust diesel engines, providing an atmospheric and scenic alternative for winter visitors.
Highlights of Winter Diesel Week:
- Daily diesel services: Three departures each day at 11:00, 12:30 and 14:00, offering a relaxed one-hour round trip through breathtaking winter scenery.
- Scenic journey: Passengers will travel across historic narrow-gauge track with views of rugged valleys and vistas characteristic of Wales’s national park.
- Heritage experience: Guests are encouraged to wrap up warm, as the vintage carriages are unheated, adding to the authentic feel of the journey.
- On-site amenities: Upon return to Pant Station, visitors can warm up and relax in the café, browse the gift shop, or enhance their visit with optional cream tea or afternoon tea experiences.
- Great value for families: Standard ticket pricing includes £20 per adult and just £1 per child.
“Winter Diesel Week is a great way to celebrate the quieter season on the railway, giving our dedicated diesel locomotives their moment to shine while offering visitors a truly special winter adventure through the heart of Welsh countryside,” said a spokesperson for Brecon Mountain Railway.
“Whether you’re a rail enthusiast or looking for an unforgettable family half-term outing, this event combines heritage, scenery and seasonal charm.” Tickets and further details are available online at www.bmr.wales or by contacting the Brecon Mountain Railway team.
