On Wednesday, 15 October Trallong and Penpont W.I. held their Centenary tea at Trallong village hall. The Women’s Institute was originally formed on the 25th October 1925.

Former and current members attended the Centenary tea event and they were also joined by the Trustees of the Federation. Celebrations began as the group planted a flowering cherry tree at Trallong village hall before the afternoon tea was enjoyed by all.

Guests of honour for the afternoon, Barbara Jones and Valerie Williams, arrived and were soon asked to take on the role of cake cutting.

The celebration cake was cut by Linda Matthews, and guests of honour Barbara Jones and Valerie Williams. Long -serving members were presented with special certificates.

The certificates went to: Jackie Williams for 25 years of membership; Linda Matthews for 30 years; Mary Adams , Megan Jones and Lisa Prosser for 40 years of service; Mary Robinson for 50 years, and Barbara Jones and Valerie Williams were celebrated for their 60 years with the group.

The toast to the future of Trallong & Penpont was proposed by the Federation President Lesley Price. President Linda Matthews proposed the toast to absent friends and the Loyal Toast was proposed by Federation Secretary Dyddanwy Pugh.

A spokesperson for Trallong and Penpont W.I. thanked those who made the event possible. They said: “Thanks to our President, Linda Matthews and our Vice President Mary Robinson for their wonderful speeches and thanks to Truly Scrumptious for catering and to the Camera and Co. photographers.

“Great fun was had by all. All new members are always welcome.”
