A GRANDFATHER found in a river after being reported missing was a former resident of St Harmon.

Malcolm Brookes’ body was found in the river Severn, just north of Llanidloes, last week.

The 70-year-old had been reported missing after he was last seen walking in Llanidloes town centre on Monday, August 19.

Police said the body had now been formally identified as that of Mr Brookes.

He had moved to Llanidloes, from St Harmon, in March this year.

A statement from his family, released by Dyfed-Powys Police, said: "Malcolm David Brookes was a loving father and doting grandfather.

"He was born in Smethwick, Birmingham, in 1949. He formerly resided in St Harmon for three years before moving to Llanidloes in March of this year. He was a kind, thoughtful and loving man who was adored by his family.”
