TWO men have been arrested by police investigating a burglary at a petrol station in Brecon.

Dyfed-Powys Police said a burglary had occurred at the West End Garage in Church Street, Llanfaes, overnight on Wednesday, February 24 into the early hours of Thursday.

The glass front door of the Mace garage had been smashed but it was open to customers on Thursday morning.

Local residents reported a helicopter flying over Brecon in the early hours of Thursday morning.

A member of staff at the garage said she was unable to comment but said she understood the helicopter wasn’t searching for anyone in relation to the raid at the garage. Staff also said they’d heard there had been a burglary at a house in Brecon as well.

Kevin Connolly, 22, who lives nearby, said he’d been woken up by a helicopter. He said: "It wasn’t until I got to work this morning that I discovered what actually happened last night.

"I was, however, woken up at around 2am by the sound of helicopters. I took a quick look out of my window and saw a helicopter spotlight searching around Llanfaes. I didn’t think much about it at the time and went back to bed."

A spokeswoman for Dyfed-Powys Police said: "Police are investigating a burglary which occurred in the West End Garage, Church Street, Llanfaes sometime overnight 24th and 25th February.

"Two males have been arrested on suspicion of burglary and currently remain in police custody.”
