Residents in Brecon have raised concerns about town centre bunting looking “untidy” along the streets.

A social media post and two separate correspondence to the B&R described the decorations on the Bulwark, Ship Street and High Street as “untidy” and “natty,” with concerns it could put off visitors.

Brecon Town Council Clerk Fiona Williams has now confirmed on behalf of Mayor Cllr Marie Matthews that the bunting will be removed next month when the Christmas lights are installed. She said this timing is part of the current contractual arrangement to minimise costs.

“Whilst we agree that it is now sadly looking very much past its best, the cost of removal as a separate job at this stage cannot really be justified,” Ms Williams added.

The town’s Christmas lights will be switched on during the Brecon with Bells On event, which will take place this year on Saturday, November 22.
