All school transport in Powys has been cancelled for Monday, December 11 following heavy snowfall on Sunday.
Many of the county's schools have already announced they will be closed on Monday due to adverse weather.High schools at Brecon, Crickhowell, Llandrindod and Presteigne have confirmed they will not be opening their doors at all on Monday. The NPTC Group of colleges has confirmed its campuses at Brecon, Llandrindod and Newtown will also be closed on Monday because of the snow.Primary schools in Brecon, Llangattock, Knighton and Rhayader are among those to have confirmed they will be closed on Monday.Full details of which schools are closed can be found at Powys council's website by following this link.Heavy snow caused disruption across Wales on Sunday with the highest snowfall in the UK in Sennybridge.
Brecon Mountain Rescue Team said it has been helping Dyfed-Powys Police and the Welsh Ambulance Service using its 4x4 vehicles to carryout tasks.Powys council has also said it has cancelled all waste collections for Monday. Its head of highways, Nigel Brinn tweeted: "Given the ongoing severe weather all waste and recycling collections are suspended for Monday 11th. It is not safe to send the vehicles out and we will utilise all available resources to assist our Highways team to clear the snow. Will advise of revised collection dates ASAP."The highways boss has also reminded motorists challenging driving conditions are expected on Monday morning.The Met Office has issued a yellow, be aware, warning of ice for all of Wales on Monday.It said: "Ice is expected to form across many places overnight into Monday morning. Some injuries are likely from slips and falls on icy surfaces as well as icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths. As well as this lying snow from Sunday will continue to be a hazard leading to longer and potentially hazardous journeys."Almost nine inches, or 23cm, was recorded in Sennybridge while the A470 at Storey Arms, between Brecon and Merthyr Tydfil, has been closed. The A40 between Llandovery and Halfway was closed due to a fallen tree.
Across mid and south Wales some 3,000 homes are without power.
The B4520 road across Epynt, from Brecon to Builth Wells, has also been closed from earlier this morning.
Powys council has said it will be gritting primary routes but asked drivers to consider staying at home.
The authority said on its Twitter account: "Snow is widespread and dangerous today. We’ve been out gritting overnight and will be today, doing our best to grit all primary routes but the snow is heavy and sticking so please be careful. If you can stay put, avoid the roads and make a snowman then please do!"
The T4 bus service, that travels from Cardiff to Newtown serving Brecon, Builth, and Llandrindod Wells, has also been suspended.
Dyfed-Powys Police has warned of "terrible road conditions" across the force area and advised against travel unless "absolutely necessary".
The Met Office had warned of likely disruption and had issues an amber warning for snow covering mid and north Wales.
