Christmas well and truly came to Brecon at the weekend as residents from near and far came together to see the switch on of the town’s Christmas lights.

Brecon’s streets became a hive of activity throughout Saturday afternoon and evening, with a packed programme of entertainment enjoyed by people of all ages.

Brecon Town Council had announced a full programme of stage entertainment from midday through until 7pm, which kept crowds entertained and set the scene for the switching on of the lights at 6pm.

Bands, face painting, magic shows, choirs, dragons, singers, schools, drama groups and more - there really was something for everyone.

Father Christmas even took time out of his busy schedule to set up his grotto in the Market Hall vaults, where he met local children and helped spread festive cheer.

Local businesses added to the merriment by offering seasonal treats and warm beverages, before the crowds packed into the Bulwark to see the switching on of the lights.

This year, the privilege fell to actor Chris Rankin - best know for playing Percy Weasley in the Harry Potter film series.

Following a countdown, the streets were illuminated - signalling the beginning of the Christmas season in Brecon.

This week also saw the winner of the Christmas Window Competition announced. This year’s theme was “The Wizards and Witches of Magical Brecon.”

The winner was named as Gwynfe Cat Welfare, second prize went to BCA Independent Advocacy Services and third place went to The Beauty House.
