Glasbury is set to host its first full-scale village fete in over two decades this weekend.
The charity fete and family fun day is to be held at Glasbury House (HR3 5NW) on Sunday, September 12 from 12- 4pm.
The last time Glasbury put on a similar size fete the year was 1999 - a litre of petrol was just 60 pence and a fresh-faced Ronan Keating was sat at the top of the UK singles charts.
The event held back in 1999 was to raise money for the playpark in the village, whereas this year’s proceeds will go towards the Glasbury (Radnor) Village Hall refurbishment fund.
Paul Hartley, from the Glasbury Fete Group, said: “The new heaters in the hall are splendid. However, the hall now needs a major decoration and a much-needed refurb of the flooring.
“As a result, we are asking people to book stalls - plus have a jolly day out of course!”
The event first came about when a Boughrood resident rang Paul and asked when the next car boot sale was being put on. It was realised a car boot sale and fete was long overdue so a proposal was presented, discussed and accepted at a Hall committee meeting back in July - and the wheels for the event were then set in motion.
A number of stalls have already been booked up, supporting great local causes including including Hay and District Dial-a-Ride, All Saints Church and Pat’s Play Park.
There will be a car boot sale and plant stall on site, as well as a number of activities including pony rides, archery, beat the goalie, splat the rat archery, a treasure hunt and the intriguing Harry ‘Putter’ and the Goblet of Fire game.
There will be plenty of food options on the day for adults and children, including a barbecue, tea and cakes, and fresh ice-cream.
Stalls cost £5 to run, which will go towards the village hall refurbishment.
