Mountain rescuers have warned walkers in the area to be “adventure smart” when exploring the many beauty spots it has to offer.

Brecon Mountain Rescue Team issued the reminder on their social media channels after they were able to quickly locate two walkers, who had become lost in the Brecon Beacons, by using an app called Phonefind .

The two hikers had become disorientated by the weather while walking on Saturday, September 25, by Llyn y Fan Fawr - a natural lake near Fan Brycheiniog which is the highest peak in the Black Mountain range.

A spokeswoman from Brecon MRT said: “The team were called to the Llyn y Fan Fawr area for two walkers who had become disorientated in the mist and drizzle.

“They were located via Phonefind and walked off the hill safely. Please remember to be adventure smart when out in the hills”.

The voluntary team relies on fundraising from the public - especially after the last 18 months when they have not been able to host their usual fundraising events.

Each call out costs an average of £550 - with around 100 callouts per year, the annual running cost of the team is £55,000.”
