A WARNING over a potential scam by people claiming to be librarians was issued after a Brecon resident reported a hoax phone call.
Powys council’s library service said it was aware a "bogus caller" had tried contacting a local resident claiming to be a member of library staff seeking personal information.
The library service said its staff never cold call people seeking personal information and warned people to be vigilant.
The warning, posted to the service’s @PowysLibraries Twitter account, warned: "Anyone claiming to be library staff and trying to get personal information over the telephone should be treated with suspicion and reported to the police immediately."
It also said staff do sometimes call members back to give information requested and said anyone in doubt could contact the library service to check who has been calling them.
A spokesman for the council said the warning was issued after a Brecon resident had notified the service about the phone call they’d received.
