DRIVERS have been urged to take care on the roads following snow fall during today and yellow weather warning for ice.

The Met Office has issued the yellow weather warning, which covers most of Wales including all of Powys, from 4pm on Tuesday until 11am on Wednesday, January 23.

Drivers and pedestrians are warned to expect ice on some roads, pavements and cycle paths and injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces can also be expected.

More snow could also fall, forecasters said: "Accumulations of several centimetres are likely above 200 metres, mainly across western Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales and northwest England. A small amount of settling snow (1 cm or less) is also possible at lower levels in a few places."

Powys council has said its gritters will be heading out from 4pm today to treat primary roads and back out at 11pm and 4am on Wednesday morning.

The council warned: "Road surface temperatures will be below zero overnight with scattered wintry showers expected. Please drive carefully."

Dyfed-Powys Police’s Brecon Roads Policing Unit shared a video, on its Twitter account, this morning showing that snow fall had covered lay-bys on the A470 near its highest point between Brecon and Merthyr Tydfil at Storey Arms.
