More than 30 young golfers aged 14 and under battled it out at the annual Powys ‘Wee Wonders’ Golf Championships at Builth Wells Golf Club yesterday.

The standard of play from every golfer was high, with everyone having already negotiated north and south Powys qualifying rounds.

The Wee Wonders rules are very simple. The youngsters tee off from junior tees closer to each hole, and each golfer is allocated a total of 36 shots. The ‘name of the game’ is to see how far around the 9-hole course they can get.

Every finalist received a certificate and the top two golfers in each age group were awarded trophies by club professional Simon Edwards.

The top 2-3 finishers in each category were as follows:

Years 8 & 9 Boys; 1st Aaron Evans (Builth Wells), 2nd Aled Lewis (Llanidloes), 3rd Steffan Marshman (Llanidloes) Year 8 & 9 Girls; Winner Kathryn Edwards (Llanidloes)
