A Brecon church is looking to spread the word about a new food pantry scheme which will benefit the local community.

Senior Pastor at Brecon Elim Church Robert Jones and wife Jemma have partnered with two businesses in the town to offer free food to anyone in need in the local area.

Every Wednesday between 11am and 12 midday, anyone can come to the church on Canal Road for free tea, coffee and cake, as well as free food to take away.

The food on offer includes essentials such as fresh fruit and vegetables, bread and tinned goods, as well as ready-to-eat snacks and sandwiches.

The church has partnered with Co-op Brecon and the Costa Coffee Brecon to use food that would otherwise be thrown out.

Robert said: “We’re very grateful to Co-op and Costa for partnering with us to make this possible.

“It’s all food that would otherwise go to waste, so it makes sense to give it back to the local community. We’ve got lots of different food as well as tea and coffee.

“The first few weeks have been really successful but we’re looking to spread the word as much as possible.”

Robert has recently taken on the leadership of the church with wife Jemma. He was born and raised in Brecon and previously served under his father, Malcolm Jones, as the Assistant Pastor.

“This is something we’re doing to bring the community together and try to help those in need,” Rob added. “Come along and join us every Wednesday if you’d like to make new friends, chat, need food or support.”
