A WELSH Ambulance Service choir has released another virtual song – and this time it’s a Christmas cracker.
Following the success of their version of Somewhere Over The Rainbow to celebrate NHS Virtual Pride event earlier this year, the choir have released That’s Christmas To Me – originally by American a cappella pop group Pentatonix.
Choir organiser and member Mads Matthews-Williams, a Medical Priority Dispatch System Auditor based in Carmarthen, said: “I thought it was something a little different from the traditional Christmas pop songs and something we could put our hearts into – especially after the year we’ve all had with the pandemic.
“I got the choir together again over social media and sent out the backing track with the main melody.
“Everybody did their bits at home on whatever devices they could and we’re really chuffed with the final piece.
“We hope people love it.”
Laura Reed, a colleague of Mads and singer in the choir, said: “I’ve been following the WAST choir for a long time, since they all came together to sing a beautiful rendition of Somewhere Over the Rainbow for Pride Week and was truly in awe.
“I work closely with Mads and was quick to learn about their most recent challenge.
“Admittedly this a cappella classic was not on my Christmas song radar, and having not heard the song before, I was very hesitant.
“I was determined to be involved and quickly set about recording some harmonies, only to be disturbed by my newly adopted cats meowing more in tune than I.
“After sending this to Mads in jest, they were very supportive and complimentary, so I decided to go full out.
“It was lovely to sing with a purpose, rather than just in the shower or in the car and Mads was there every step of the way.
“There truly was a spirit of togetherness.”
