GREEN Man has announced nine Welsh language acts that will play the festival’s Settlement Stage this year.
The Settlement allows festival-goers to stay an entire week at its site in Crickhowell with workshops, activities, local discounts and a curated stage of some of the best new Welsh music around.
Festival chiefs have teamed up with digital distribution label PYST to curate the Settlement Stage with emerging Welsh acts, with an emphasis on Welsh language acts. PYST is Wales’ first distribution and label services company, which helps artist promote and market their music.
The nine confirmed bands are Pys Melyn, 3 Hwr Doeth, Mellt, Blodau Papur, Ani Glass, Y Cledrau, Y Sybs, Chroma and Los Blancos.
They will all take to the Settlement stage from Monday, August 12 giving festival goers a chance to hear artists who are making a real name for themselves in the Welsh music scene right now in the days leading up to the main festival.
The weekend will be headlined by Four Tet, Father John Misty, Brit nominees Idles and Sharon Van Etten with Broken Social Scene, Stereolab, Amadou and Mariam and Khruangbin among the other biggest names set to play across the weekend.
Electronic pop musician Ani Glass, who used to be in The Pipettes with sister Gwenno, who is also appearing at Green Man, said she is excited to be performing on the Settlement stage.
She said: “I’m really looking forward to playing again at the most wonderful, colourful and friendly festival there is.”
Three-piece south Wales band, Chroma said: "Every year we look forward to Green Man more than Christmas, so it’s amazing that we get to play the Settlers’ stage this year.”
Alun Llwyd, the chief executive of PYST, said: "It’s a huge honour and pleasure to work with our friends at Green Man on this year’s Settlement. We have been privileged to work with some insanely brilliant artists and labels that currently make this the strongest period for Welsh music in a long, long time. The three nights of Settlement offers a selection of these artists. Enjoy them and explore more.”
Green Man, now in its 17th year, runs from Thursday, August 15 until Sunday, August 18. A Settler’s Pass allows a week of camping, workshops, music and activities before the main weekend.
