Work on the second phase of Brecon’s town centre scheme is due to begin next week.
The work will begin on Monday, November 9, with construction scheduled to continue until the end of March 2027.
Powys County Council has appointed Powys-based contractor EvaBuild to carry out the work, which will cover the area from the eastern end of St Mary’s Church to the Lloyds Bank area, including High Street Inferior.
The scheme is funded by the Welsh Government and forms part of a wider programme of improvements to Brecon town centre.
The council said the work would focus on improving accessibility, public spaces and connections through the town.
It follows community engagement during the development of the overall scheme, with feedback from residents, businesses and visitors informing the plans.
Businesses and other stakeholders are being contacted ahead of the work, with the council and contractor expected to provide updates during construction.
The council said consideration was being given to maintaining access and limiting disruption during the Christmas trading period.
Final plans for the second phase are due to be displayed at y Gaer, where residents, businesses and visitors will be able to view the proposals.
Cllr Jackie Charlton, Powys County Council’s cabinet member for a Greener Powys, said: “It is exciting to see the next phase of the Brecon Town Centre Improvement Scheme begin. This significant investment will make the town centre more attractive, accessible and welcoming for residents, businesses and visitors.
“We recognise the works may cause disruption and thank everyone for their continued patience and support.”
She added that the improvements would support businesses and encourage people to spend more time in Brecon.
Cllr Charlton also thanked Seer Construction Ltd, which delivered the first phase of the scheme.
The council has published further information about the plans, construction work and key dates on its Brecon town centre improvements webpage.
