A care home in Llandrindod Wells has marked 60 years of providing care and support to people in the local community, celebrating its long history while recognising the dedication of long-serving members of the team.
The event at Wylesfield care home brought together residents, families, colleagues and special guests to reflect on six decades of the home being a place many people have called home.
Among those in attendance was Russell Brown, Chief Executive Officer of Shaw healthcare, alongside Cllr Steve Deeks D’Silva, Mayor of Llandrindod Wells and Nina Davies, Director of Social Services and Wellbeing at Powys County Council. The Mayor was accompanied by Ellis Yeo, who was on his first official duty as the Mayor’s Cadet.
A particularly special guest was Pat Sharman, service manager of one of Shaw’s supported living services in Talgarth. He has a long-standing personal connection to Wylesfield, having grown up there while his mother managed the home.
The celebration also recognised long-serving members of staff, thanking them for their commitment, compassion, and dedication to residents over many years. Their contribution has played a vital role in Wylesfield’s ability to continue delivering safe, caring, and supportive services for six decades.
Service manager, Amanda Barber, who joined the team in July last year, spoke about the warm welcome she has received since starting her role. She said: “From my very first day, I’ve been made to feel incredibly welcome by both colleagues and residents. There is a real sense of community here, and it’s clear how much pride everyone takes in making Wylesfield a place people feel at home.”
Wylesfield is operated by Shaw healthcare on behalf of Powys County Council, continuing its commitment to high-quality, person-centred care. Shaw is the largest employee-owned healthcare company in the UK and the third largest employee-owned business overall.
