The Met Office has forecast a yellow weather warning for Saturday, June 7 with thunderstorms for parts of the UK, with Powys to face the brunt of it.

The warning comes into play from 9am, ending at 6pm.

Heavy rain and lightning is expected, with a warning that travel could be disrupted, and some buildings may be damaged. Delays to trains are also expected.

A Met Office forecast said: "Frequent heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected for much of Saturday before fading from the west during the mid to late afternoon. 10-15 mm of rain could fall in less than an hour, whilst some places could see 30-40 mm of rain over several hours from successive showers and thunderstorms. Frequent lightning, hail and strong, gusty winds will be additional hazards."

The Met’s Office advice is to consider if your area is at risk of flash flooding, and if so to prepare a flood plan and an emergency flood kit. Other advice is to have backups in case of power cuts, and to give yourself the best chance at avoiding delays.

A yellow warning can be issued for a range of weather situations.
