POWYS is braced for more severe weather and possible flooding this weekend.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for parts of Powys. It says heavy rainfall is expected and there is a possibility of flooding from 3am on Sunday morning, February 23. Spells of persistent rain are expected over 12 hours until 3pm.

The Met Office warned: “An area of rain is expected to move from west to east across the south of the UK, and may be especially persistent over mid and south Wales, which contains catchments which are currently saturated and highly sensitive to further rainfall. 20-40 mm is likely fairly widely, and a few spots in the mountains of south Wales could see 50-60 mm”.

The warning lasts until 3pm on Sunday, and disruption to some bus and train services could be likely.

A fortnight ago, Storm Ciara brought strong winds and rainfall which caused disruption across areas within the UK, including Brecon and Radnorshire. Last weekend, Storm Dennis caused flooding across Wales with Crickhowell, Llanelwedd and Builth Wells among the areas that suffered disruption.

The A479, Talgarth to Crickhowell road, remains closed following a landslide at Pengenffordd as a result of the heavy rain brought by Storm Dennis.

Brecknock Wildlife Trust have also said that the easy access footpath for Pwll Y Wrach, Talgarth has been closed due to damage as a result of Storm Dennis.
