Local young artists from a weekend art club have had their work on display at the latest exhibition at Centre Celf in Llandrindod Wells.

Artists from the Saturday Art Club at Celf o Gwmpas were delighted to see their work unveiled during a special private gallery launch event at the end of last month.

The exhibition features original work from a number of children and families. They were able to attend the weekly arts club free of charge thanks to the Powys County Councils Winter of Wellbeing funding whose aim was to provide a range of play, sporting and cultural activities for children and young people aged 0-25 during the winter of 2022.

Originally funded to run until March 2022, the art club, held on a Saturday morning for young people aged up to 16 years old, proved so popular it was able to secure funding, from the Postcode Community Trust, a grant-giving charity funded entirely by players of the People’s Postcode Lottery, to continue until the beginning of July 2022.

Evalina Morrison, 11, who took part in a number of art sessions and attended the private preview said: “It was very nice and the teaching was excellent, it helped me learn how to draw and feel better about my art.”

The art exhibition features a wide variety of mediums such as mosaic, sculpture, charcoal drawing, printing and mask making, thanks to the different guest artists invited by Celf o Gwmpas to teach each week. Future techniques include cartoon drawing, landscape painting and felt making.

Cllr Josie Ewing, who is also a trustee at Celf o Gwmpas, attended the exhibition preview event and said: “What a wonderful exhibition, children are our creative future, we need to encourage their freedom in art and celebrate their individuality.”

The exhibition runs until Thursday June 23 and is available to view Tuesday and Thursdays 10am – 4pm and Saturday mornings 10am – 12.30pm at Centre Celf on Tremont Road, Llandrindod Wells.

Centre Celf are happy to make other times available if you are unable to visit at these times, so please get in touch.
