DISABLED riders were among those who took part in the OverTheBaas Bike Fest mountain ride on Sunday, September 23.

Jordan and Russell from Brecon Integrated Sports Association were swept along with the group of mountain bikers through the lanes, over the Talybont Reservoir Dam and onto the old railway line.

This beautiful, quiet, wooded track follows the lake gently (but relentlessly!) uphill for five miles, ending with dramatic views of the Beacons and the Reservoir.

While the Bike Fest group powered onto the open hill, Rebecca and Jo riding a ‘Duo’ tandem tricycle joined the friends for the exhilarating return descent. ?

Thank you very much to Keith Lee, Bikes and Hikes, for looking after the BISA bikes and riders, Beverley Tucker of Powys Disability Sports for support and the loan of the accessible bikes, Gerry Blake and Coleg Elidyr.?

Meanwhile, 14 year old George from Ysgol Penmaes, with an encouraging support team and Clancy as his double trike captain, was determinedly pedalling up the old railway line. Like magic they discovered the electric-assist on the trike, found the sunny views and made the faster but colder return journey. Ten miles in two hours, a superb achievement. ?

At the Bike Fest weekend £500 was raised in sponsorship and donations to fund indoor and outdoor disability sports.

Thank you very much Over the Baas Bike Fest for including less able cyclists and inspiring us to find more quiet, country cycle routes.

Apologies that the yellow weather warnings kept most club members at home – Brecon Integrated Sports Association will be holding another sponsored bike ride in half term for them!
