On Thursday, April 9, the final fixtures of the 2025/26 Veterans Indoor Bowls League season were played at the Radnorshire Indoor Centre.
Cliffhangers secured victory in their final match, resulting in a shared title with the Bulls of Builth Wells. It is the first time in the competition’s long history that two teams have tied for the Walter Rogers Cup.
The trophy was donated many years ago by sisters Annette Barrett and Dorothy Moseley in memory of their father, who served as a Radnor District Councillor for several years.
After the afternoon matches, Thursday League organiser Colin Perrier congratulated the joint winners and thanked everyone who had helped him during the season, including Brian Jones, who arranged the buffet that followed. In turn, Colin was thanked and announced his own personal award of miniature “gold” winner’s medals for the most improved team of the season - Newbridge.
The members of the Bulls team were Robert Wall (captain), Geoff Lawrence, John James, Ken Francis, Sue Francis, Shirley King and Clive Marshall. The Cliffhangers team were Cliff Jones (captain), Martin Hurst, Steve Hammond, Nigel Frankland, Bob McCann, Dave Petley and Geoff Penketh.
The presentation of the trophy was made by John Lloyd of Newbridge-on-Wye.
