BRECON High School and Brecon AC athletes made a storming impact on their indoor athletics debuts at the Welsh Regional Championships.
Harvey Parsons, U15 and Patrick Deveney Billinge, U13 attended the event held over two days in late December and early January and both walked away with three medals each of the gold and bronze variety.
Harvey’s golds came in the pole-vault and hurdles with the bronze in the high jump, Patrick won gold in the high jump and took bronze in both the 200m and 800m. With over 800 athletes taking part over two days of competition this is a fantastic achievement.
Both boys were not alone and were joined by Brecon AC teammates who also had their moments on the winner’s podium for their efforts.
Welsh national athletes Ben griffin and George Thomas who are both now in the U17 age group showed their class by taking gold in the 200m, 60m and 400m respectively. Tom Baxter was also rewarded for all his winter training efforts with a bronze medal in the 200m.
Fellow training partner Sophie Mathews U17 took a silver medal in the long jump and Brychan Price Davies in his first U17 competition took a well-earned bronze in a blisteringly fast the 800m which saw a new championship record at 1 minute 59 seconds.
Shot putt is an event that has grown exponentially in popularity over the last few years at Brecon AC and the evidence of this was clear as Ryan Hughes and Owen Rees took the gold and silver medals in the U13 shot putt and Kyle Davies Silver in the U15 age group; all were pleased with the result having not thrown in competition since September.
Debuts by Skyla Holman and Mia Coackham in the U15 high jump saw them take the silver and bronze medals, a fantastic result having only tried the event for the very first time five months before this competition.
Other Brecon AC athletes Alice Davies, Evan Price Davies, Glasni Powell, Ewan dykes, Leilani Gethin, Sozfia Orkos, Cerys Wheeler, Paige Ballington and Jack Dykes, all made promising start to 2016 across the whole range of track and field range events and ran and jumped well against the huge field of athletes all striving to give of their best.
