Brecon’s Dan Pitt has been elected to join the World Boxing Athlete Committee.

The news comes following the inaugural World Boxing Championships in Liverpool. Dan will join five other international athletes on the committee: Buse Naz Çakıroğlu from Turkey, Caitlin Parker from Australia, Richard Torrez Jr. of the USA, Yojerlin Cesar of France and Zareen Nikhat from India.

The committee is there to ensure that boxers have a voice in the World Boxing organisation, providing advice, guidance and opinions on behalf of fellow boxers.

As part of the Athlete Committee, Brecon’s Dan will have a crucial role in shaping the future of the sport. The Committee also nominate two representatives to contribute directly to World Boxing Executive Board meetings and Congress.

Dan began boxing at 12 years-old at Brecon Phoenix ABC and has gone on to build a reputation as one of the brightest young talents in Welsh boxing.

In 2024, the Brecon boxer became Youth World Champion in Colorado, adding to a glittering list of achievements that already include five international gold medals and back-to-back British titles.

Speaking on Pitt’s new role on the World Boxing Athlete Committee, a spokesperson for Welsh Boxing said: “For Dan, the appointment is another milestone in an already impressive career. His rise reflects not only his dedication but also his growing influence on the world stage.

“Pitt’s election to the Athlete Committee ensures that Welsh Boxing will have a strong voice at the heart of the sport’s global development. His experience as both an athlete and a mentor makes him well placed to represent the needs of boxers worldwide. Congratulations Daniel!”

Dan regularly supports Cardiff Met University Boxing Club and his local club Brecon Phoenix ABC, while also pursuing a degree in Sports Conditioning, Rehabilitation and Massage at Cardiff Met University.
