DRAGON SIGNS FAW AMATEUR TROPHY

Declan Beddoes’ hat-trick was no no avail for Knighton Town who bowed out of the Dragon Signs FAW Amateur Trophy beaten on penalties by Llandudno Amateurs. It was a cruel way to exit the competition for The Radnor Robins who conceded deep into stoppage time as it ended 3-3 at Bryn-y-Castell.

Knighton, again without key players, fell behind to an Aaron Rogers goal midway through the first half. Beddoes, making only his second start of the season, equalised three minutes before half-time and then struck again early in the second half. Rogers netted his second for Llandudno but Beddoes completed his hat-trick with 10 minutes remaining. Despite not being at their best, that looked as if it would see Knighton through but Billy Bibby forced the shootout with his late effort for Llandudno. The Robins then lost 4-2 on penalties with Taylor Wozencraft and Callum Stead scoring from the spot while Jack Hoyle and Adam Worton were denied by visiting keeper, Kyle King.

Mid Wales teams to progress in the FAW Amateur Trophy were Bow Street, Llanfair United, Dolgellau and Four Crosses. Bow Street beat Rhostyllen 3-0 with goals from Harvey Matthews, Steff Davies and Tom Williams while Jack Jones (2), Nyasha Mwamuka and Owain James were on target in the second half as Llanfair beat Amlwch Town 4-0.

Dolgellau went one better easing past Nantlle Vale 5-1 with Will Grufydd (2), Osian Morris, Dennis Bates and Aaron Young completing the nap hand.

Four Crosses are the sole survivors from the MMP Central Wales Leagues as they won 5-3 on penalties at Mochdre Sports. Lewis Birch and Archie Burton saw Crosses two up at half-time but the hosts levelled in the second half.

WATSON FINANCIAL MID WALES LEAGUE (SOUTH)

Talgarth Town displayed their Watson Financial Mid Wales League (South) title credentials coming from behind to win 4-1 at previous leaders, Rhayader Town Development on Friday night. Influential captain, Aaron Bates gave Rhayader the lead on 33 minutes with a good finish but Grzes Chodnicki soon had Talgarth level. Ellis Robinson popped up with his first senior goal to put Talgarth ahead in the second half and the impressive Chodnicki extended the lead before Kyle O’Shea completed the victory.

Friday’s result meant that whoever won the Brecknock derby between Hay St Marys and Builth Wells Reserves would go top of the table and The Saints are the new league leaders following a convincing 4-0 victory over the young Bulls. But Builth were the better side in the early part of the game and it was against the run of play when Taylor Maddy was picked out at the back post by Ricky Lynes to put Hay in front. Hay upped their game after the break and Darren Horrigan doubled the lead from another assist by Lynes who added a third himself after linking with substitutes, Kyle Harding and Charlie Ward. Harding was twice denied by Builth keeper, Jordan Jarvis before Ward completed the win with a towering header from a Jack Cook corner.

Brecon FC, like Talgarth, are unbeaten and up to second in the table after a 5-1 home success over Llanidloes Town Reserves who were playing their first match of the term. Brecon never looked back after captain, Obo Edwards headed them in front from a Tom Morgan free-kick in the second minute. Jack Davies played Rueben Rodell in for a second and player-manager, Scott Phillips hit the bar with a cracking 25-yard volley. But the Stags did increase their lead before half-time with Rodell grabbing his second when Aaron and Charlie Mills combined. Aaron Mills got his name on the scoresheet from another Morgan corner early in the second half and soon added his second with Morgan providing his third assist of the afternoon. It looked at this stage as if it might be a long afternoon for Llanidloes but they stuck to their task reducing the deficit when Callum Jones grabbed a late consolation.

St Harmon were celebrating their first win of the new season with Adam Young scoring three minutes into time added on to earn a 4-3 verdict over Knighton Town Reserves who have now lost four in a row by the odd goal.

Knighton will again be disappointed as they three times led through Louis Scott, Cain Martin and Gareth Bull. But St Harmon showed their battling qualities hitting back through Dan Powell and Arran Lloyd (2) before Young struck at the end with Harry Powell setting him up for his fourth goal of the season.

Elsewhere there was plenty of drama at The Racecourse where Harry Bufton snatched a late equaliser to keep Penybont United’s unbeaten run intact as they drew 3-3 with local rivals, Llandrindod Wells Reserves.

Ruben Edwards put Llandrindod ahead in the first half after being picked out by Reuben Baker's quickly-taken free-kick.

Penybont’s Rhys Davies equalised in the 58th minute from a through ball by Alphie Stonefield, only for Ryan Sims to restore Llandrindod’s lead minutes later. Danny Hall extended the advantage in the 69th minute with a composed finish over Casey Hanby.

But Penybont refused to surrender, and they halved the deficit in the 73rd minute when Walby beat Thomas at his near post.

Just when it appeared that the Spa Men would claim the local bragging rights, with the final whistle approaching, Harry Bufton scored from Callum Shaw's free-kick delivered to the far post in stoppage time.

MMP CENTRAL WALES LEAGUES

Cian Price and player-coach, Lance Jones scored the goals as Rhayader Town maintained their promising unbeaten start to the MMP Central Wales League (South) season with a 2-0 home victory over Bow Street Reserves.

Price opened his account for the term after 11 minutes but Bow Street - themselves unbeaten in five prior to the weekend - remained in the game until substitute, Jones sealed the win with the second goal six minutes from time.

Rhayader’s league form, four home wins and a draw on the road at Machynlleth, suggest they can be treated as serious title contenders although it is still early days. The Red Kites now embark on a run of Cup matches before their next league fixture at home against Caersws Development on September 27.

Ffostrasol and Machynlleth shared the points in a six-goal thriller with Machynlleth having led at half-time through Calum Humphreys and Alfie Westwood. Ffostrasol turned it around after the break with Tomos Rogers, Steff Evans and Dafydd Phillips giving them the lead but Louis Roberts netted a third for Mach.

Lampeter Town are back on top of the table after Hari Jones, Rhodri Morgan and substitutes, Ben Jones and Scott Davies netted in an impressive 4-0 victory at Tregaron.

Penrhyncoch Reserves kept up their challenge with debutant, Elwyn Edwards getting off the bench to score a late winner in their 2-1 verdict over Kerry Reserves. Oliver Thomas had given Kerry a second half lead but Rhodri Morgan equalised before former Penparcau defender, Edwards won it for The Roosters, who have now won five in a row.

Efan Wyn Jones twice gave Llanilar the lead at home against Caersws Development who hit back to draw 2-2 thanks to Jared Marks and Shayne Kelly. Bont beat Llanidloes Town 4-2 with goals from Jordan Lee Perry (2), Ethan Rees and Sion Jones while Joe Evans netted twice for The Daffs who are still after their first win.

Carno went top of the MMP Central Wales League (North) with Llewelyn Jerman, Sean Wild, Leo Azru and Josh Hartrick the marksmen in a 4-0 win against Trewern United.

Tywyn Bryncrug remain unbeaten after second half goals from Aaron Rodgers and Nick Williams gave them a 2-1 win over Welshpool Town while Andrew Papirnyk was both hero and villain as Barmouth edged a 1-0 scoreline against Dyffryn Banw. Papirnyck scored the only goal midway through the second half before getting sent off in stoppage time.

There were two red cards at Montgomery Town who drew 3-3 with Bishops Castle with Lee Jones (Montgomery) and Mark Griffiths (Bishops Castle) sent off after the final whistle. Griffiths and Martyn Ziemann (2) had scored for Castle with Jack Williams, Tom Halliday and an own goal making up the Montgomery tally.

Jake O’Donnell bagged a hat-trick as Forden United got their league campaign back on track with a 4-1 win at Llansantffraid last Wednesday night.

In the other midweek games there were two own goals in the 1-1 draw between Berriew and Carno while Nathan Gray grabbed a late equaliser to earn Abermule a welcome point as they drew 3-3 at Montgomery Town.

Jake O’Donnell followed up his midweek hat-trick with a four goal haul on Saturday as Forden progressed in the Emrys Morgan Cup with a 5-0 win at former Mid Wales League (South) side, Newcastle.

CYMRU LEAGUES

Penrhyncoch moved themselves out of the bottom three in the JD Cymru North with a hard-earned 1-1 draw at Holyhead Hotspur. Zac Davies gave Penrhyn the lead in first half stoppage time but Callum Graves levelled.

Replacing Penrhyncoch in the relegation places are Caersws who lost 3-1 at home to leaders, Holywell Town – a fifth defeat from six for The Bluebirds. Jamie Breese scored after just five minutes for Holywell but an own goal had Caersws level at half-time. Craig Lindfield regained the visitors’ lead but Caersws remained in the game until Zak Kempster-Down netted a third Holywell goal in time added on. And Caersws’ misery was complete when Ashley Harries was handed a straight red card.

Iwan Matthews gave Guilsfield the lead at home against the much fancied Airbus UK who went on to win 4-1 thanks to Blaine Hudson, Kaiden Cooke , Danny Warren and George Peers. Guilsfield had captain, Jake Cook sent off while manager, Gavin Allen also saw red.

It was not the best of days for the Mid Wales sides as Newtown tasted defeat for the first time this season beaten 2-0 at Llandudno whose Harvey Bennett and Thomas Stephens scored in either half.

Aberystwyth Town have now gone four without a win in the JD Cymru South following a 3-1 defeat at Cardiff Draconians. Dylan Downes netted the consolation for The Seasiders who had Star Mayemba sent off.
