Brecon FC Girls have advanced to the final of the Central Wales Girls Cup after their semi-final win on Sunday, 19 April.
The team travelled away to face Llanidloes for a semi-final clash in the Central Wales Girls Cup with a strong squad of 15 making the journey.
Brecon started the game well and controlled large parts of the game, limiting Llanidloes to very few clear chances. Just before half-time, the hosts, Llanidloes, took the lead following a loose clearance in the box, but Brecon responded superbly after the break. They came out strong in the second half moving the ball well, and within eight minutes they had turned the game around through goals from Nyah and Eva.
From there, Brecon continued to control the match, staying solid through the middle and working tirelessly all over the pitch. There were outstanding performances right across the squad. Liv J and Molly worked brilliantly in midfield, while Liv S came on to make crucial tackles and stop the opposition cutting inside. In defence, Carys, Evie P, Nicole and Matilda, playing there for the first time, looked calm and composed throughout. Whilst Rosey, Deri, Megan RJ, Emily Rose and Megan P worked tirelessly chasing every ball up front.
“There were so many strong performances it would be unfair to leave any of them out!” said coach Billy Kennedy-Brown.
In the final moments, Llanidloes had a free-kick and nearly forced an equaliser, but Nora, who had been solid and composed throughout, refusing to be beat got down superbly to her far post to make an excellent save and secure the win.
Brecon Coach, Billy said: “It was a tough game against a very good side, but the girls battled through and now progress to the Central Wales Girls Cup Final on May 17, where they will face Llanfair United.
“From the coaching team, parents and everyone at the club, every single one of the girls should be incredibly proud. To reach a cup final having played very few games this season is a fantastic achievement.
“A big thank you to our fantastic sponsors: CMJ Motors, Owen Morgan OJ Morgan Services, and Bethjphotography."
