Brecon Corries saw their two-match winning run ended in the Ardal League South East as they were beaten 5–1 at home by league leaders Caerphilly Athletic.
But the scoreline is no reflection of a game in which Corries turned in a solid performance, only to be undone by three late goals.
Drew Perrett opened the scoring for Caerphilly, but Liam McAnally had Corries deservedly back on terms by half-time, rifling home his first goal of the season. Corries were disrupted by the loss of Luke Roughley to injury at the break but were very much in the game. Jay Ryan Hughes had an opportunity in the second half, but it was Troy Hiscock-Greening who regained Caerphilly’s lead. Finley Skiverton added a third for the visitors on 82 minutes and went on to complete a late hat-trick as Caerphilly maintained their 10-point lead at the top of the table.
Corries, who remain in fifth spot in the league table, now have six games remaining, of which five are at home - the first of these on Saturday, when Abercarn United visit the Hub Scaffolding Rich Field.
