S.E.A. Dragons, a Brecon based esports team has won the Welsh Esports League again, securing back-to-back titles.
This season has been one of the most competitive the league has seen, with 18 clubs from across Wales involved and a noticeable increase in investment, ownership changes and overall standards.
The competition spanned six different game titles: Chess (online), EA FC 26, Valorant, Rocket League, CS2 and Rainbow Six Siege. S.E.A. Dragons fielded teams across all of them.
Despite the increased competition, particularly from their Mid-Wales rivals Aberystwyth Artists who finished 3rd overall following a major overhaul in both club ownership and players, the Dragons managed to retain their position at the top. They finished first in both Rocket League and CS2, with their CS2 team notably remaining unbeaten since the club was founded, and now going three full seasons without a loss.
The Rocket League final was also one of the most engaged broadcasts of the season, attracting close to 300 live viewers with strong support throughout, particularly from the S.E.A. Dragons community. Alongside that, the Dragon’s Valorant, Rainbow Six and Chess teams all finished second, while their EA FC side secured a solid 5th place finish to contribute valuable points toward the overall standings.
Following the final, in a post game interview, Rocket League Manager Connor “Faizye” Chittock said: “We said before the final that we wanted to dominate, and that’s exactly what we did. It’s probably the best we’ve ever played as a team, and to do it in a final makes it even more special.”
Dragons’ Rocket League Player 'Dash' added: “Going into the final I was nervous, especially after last season, but the team helped build my confidence. I think I played some of my best Rocket League, and to win it together means a lot.”
One of the team’s founders, Patryk Bialowas, formerly of Brecon High School said: “To win Club of the Season back-to-back means a huge amount to us, especially considering how quickly the club has grown over the past year. This is the result of a real collective effort from players, staff and volunteers, and it’s something we’re incredibly proud of as a Brecon based organisation.
“It’s been an incredibly busy season, and with European events on the horizon, we’re now looking to build on this momentum and continue representing Brecon on a wider stage. As part of that, our Rocket League team recently travelled to London to compete at the St Mary’s University Esports Arena for our RLCS EU 4 campaign.”
The team has experienced early success in their journey. S.E.A. Dragons was founded by Dylan Carpenter and former Brecon High School pupil Patryk Bialowas in 2024.
A passionate data analyst himself, Patryk and Dylan have built the club on on what Patryk describes as an “esports Moneyball” philosophy, using analysis, structure and performance data to gain an edge on their opponents. Despite not being able to match the big budgets of other esports organisations, the Dragons more than match them on the computer screens. The rapid growth has seen them have to quickly build a professional structure, making key acquisitions. They have competed against the likes of Manchester City’s esports team and a team owned by sports icon and Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt.
