ANOTHER superb performance by Brecon 1st team saw them claim a convincing six-wicket home victory against Pentyrch 1st team which moved them into the heady reaches of second place in League Division One whilst retaining their undefeated start to the season in a game sponsored by Mitchell Meredith Chartered Accountants.

Batting first Pentyrch struggled to post a challenging total in damp conditions and were dismissed for 111.

Richard Lovering was the main destroyer with 4-25 and with Sam Williams continuing his excellent form taking 3-36.

They received solid support from John Kenchington with 2-16 and with a late run out it was all over for the visitors in 36 overs.

In reply the Brecon batsmen did not have things all their own way with the loss of early wickets despite Greg Webber making 20. However Andy MacDonald (29 no) and Tom Jones (16 no) saw Brecon home with an undefeated stand of 55 runs to record a well merited victory and 18 points.

The 2nd team went down to another narrow defeat this time away at Radyr 2nd team by one wicket.

After a shaky start a partnership of 90 between Steve Kenchington (58), showing classic shot play and Terry Dickson (36) put the innings for Brecon back on course and a nicely struck 19 no from Ryan Morgan meant the innings closed on 165-7.

When Brecon took the field they had to do without Brian Skinner, having pulled a hamstring when batting, and to compound the problems Radyr got away to a quick start but the introduction of spin bowling slowed the momentum and when Steve Kenchington struck with 4-36 it was always going to be a close encounter.

Despite good bowling from Finn Starkey (2-27) and Ben Kenchington (2-21) Radyr inched towards the win, however when Ryan Morgan bowled top scorer Jack Davies it brought RadyrÕs last pair to the wicket with nine runs required.

It was not to be however for Brecon with Radyr edging home to win an excellent game of cricket.

Next Saturday will see Brecon 1st team travel to play Newbridge 1sts who are presently top of the table and who like Brecon have an undefeated record to defend in what looks likely to be an exciting encounter.

The 2nd team will entertain Dinas Powys.
