Builth 307-4 beat Glangrwyney 70 all out by 237 runs
AFTER two less than impressive batting displays on the road, Builth must wish they could bat on their Garth Road pitch every week as they crushed a dispirited Glangrwyney with Dylan Mcphee leading the way with a sparkling 118.
With poor weather threatening proceedings Builth, without their usual openers Aled Powell and Winston Williams, took full advantage of being asked to bat first as together with skipper Sam Williams the opening pair racked up a 182-run partnership for the first wicket.
It was only a break for rain that seemed to threaten the pair as Williams succumbed for a typically stylish 84 before Mcphee brought up his maiden Builth ton with a trademark airborne cover drive for four.
Eric de Greeve piled on the agony for the Glan attack as he bludgeoned a rapid 42 not out
to bring up a second successive home score of 300 plus at Garth Road.
For Glangrwyney only Tim Jones 3-44 offered any resistance as the Bulls closed on 307-4 in their allotted 38 overs.
The visitors must have hoped that the intermittent showers would bring an early end but to no avail. With his batting boots on Tim Jones (22) looked to take on the Builth attack singlehandedly but his dismissal brought about a swift denouement as first Mike Williams (3-37), then all rounder De Greeve (4-10) and the wily Rob Wall (2-10) wrapped up the visitors for a paltry 70. The fine bowling was supported in the field by some excellent catching, particularly from skipper Williams with a first slip hat-trick.
Delighted home skipper Sam Williams beamed: ÒIt was a great all-round performance from us, we got off to a great start and kept the pressure on."
The Bulls will look to continue in this vein as they visit Kington on Saturday.
NARROW DEFEAT FOR SECONDS
Builth 2s 128 all out lost to Burghill, Tillington and Weobley 3rds 129-7 by 3 wickets
Builth 2s put in a brave performance before finally going down to a three wicket reverse in their Div 3 clash at Weobley school.
After being asked to have first use of a slow pitch, Builth found runs hard to come by as first Aled Powell (21), Paul Rowe (19) and Steve Anderson (18) got started but were unable to kick on. Tom Childs (24) and Eurig Towns (14) looked to inject some much needed momentum as the innings petered out but Builth seemed to be under par as they were dismissed for a hard working 128 in the final over of the 45. For BTW John Lewis (3-20), Joe Yarnold 2-14) and Alan Howard (2-16) kept the reins tight.
In reply BTW looked to make light work of their chase as openers Ryan Knight (14) and Jobin Varghese (28) went on the attack but Aled Powell (4-33) and Ben Cripps (2-19) reined the home side in to offer some hope of a Builth win.
But after a middle order collapse Aruna Krishana (28) and Lewis (11 no) saw BTW complete a three-wicket win to the relief of the home support.
Stressing the positive aspects of the loss, skipper Steve Anderson said: "We were short on runs in the end but we stuck at it and with a bit of luck could have nicked it."
The Bulls second string will hope to continue their improved form as they take on Talybont-on-Usk at Garth Road on Saturday.
