SATURDAY saw Glangrwyney first team entertain Canon Frome and looking to achieve a season’s double over their visitors.

Glangrwyney won the toss and Skipper Mike Devoy had no hesitation in batting first. Devoy led from the front with a well struck 91.

He put on a seasons best opening partnership of 150 with Ryan Sharp, and although Sharp departed soon afterwards having reached 50, Tim Jones and Drew Heffernan maintained the onslaught on the Canon Frome bowlers, both also reaching 50, the inning closing at 283-5.

In reply, Canon Frome suffered an early loss but took the fight to the home team, the days centurion Rogers featuring in stands of 115 with Richards, and 59 with Evans, taking the score over the 200 mark.

Ryan Sharp as in the previous week, bowling in the later part of the innings proved devastating and wrestled the game back for the home team, picking up four wickets, skipper Mike Devoy also bringing himself back into the attack at the right time gave no respite at the other end, Canon Frome ending up 25 runs short.

Glangrwyney’s second team suffered mixed fortunes with a double header on the weekend.

Saturday saw an away trip to Strollers. Strollers batting first saw Pirie add 72 with Hurds, and 47 with Lucas, the innings finally closing at 186-9.

Eryl Cooke was the pick of the Glangrwyney bowlers with four wickets, Eddie Harding, and James McIlroy picking up two apiece. Jack Hooper and Hadyn Davies bowled well at the top of the innings but with no reward.

In reply, Glangrwyney made a steady start through Keane and Jerrams. Paul Daniels, Simon Hindle, and Hadyn Davies all made good starts, but eventually the visitors fell 32 runs short. For Strollers McGuire and Lucas picked up three wickets apiece, and Chamberlain two.

Sunday saw another away trip for the second team to Bartestree 4ths.

Batting first on a wicket that everyone could see was a batting paradise, Bartestree’s Freeman top scored with 55 for the home side seeing the score to 128 in stands with his first three batting partners.

Warelent and Person carried on to see the inning close at 217-6, the visitors more than happy to have restricted the home side to that score on a good batting wicket.

For Glangrwyney, Nicky Jones and Ryan Sharp bowled well at the top of the innings with little reward, Eryl Cooke bowled a miserly spell in the middle of the innings, Tim Jones making a rare appearance with the ball, stemmed a possible onslaught at the end of the innings picking up three wickets.

In reply, Glangrwyney’s Ryan Sharp and Drew Heffernan took the attack to the bowlers adding 84 for the first wicket in good time. Drew Heffernan carrying his bat for the day’s top score with an almost chance-less 88 not out.

Tim Jones, Tom Miller and Nick Jones providing good attacking support to see Glangrwyney to a winning total of 221-3, of which 178 runs came in boundaries and a comfortable seven wicket victory with eight overs remaining. Bartestree’s bowlers toiled away in batting friendly conditions, Jones picking up two of the wickets to fall.
