SATURDAY saw Glangrwyney first team welcome Herefordshire side Garnons.

Fielding first Glangrwyney made good inroads into the Garnons top order, skipper Mike Devoy dismissing his opposite number on the second ball. Together with fellow opening bowler Nicky Jones, and Julian Hardwick, Devoy reduced Garnons to 60-6.

Garnons then fought back with experienced Alan Jones and Rob Pritchard patiently adding 120 for the seventh wicket. Devoy, Jones and Ryan Sharp claimed late wickets to dismiss Garnons in the last over of their innings.

In reply, Glangrwyney made as equally poor start to their reply being reduced to 47-5. Barry Sharp brought some stability to the innings with stands of 45 with Ryan Sharp and Mike Devoy 41.

They also maintained the required run rate and eventually ran out of partners, when Garnons opening fast bowler was brought back and proved too much for the tail end batsmen, Glangrwyney falling to 66 runs short.

On Sunday Glangrwyney travelled to Wormelow for a 20/20 match and put on a good show against a strong home side.

Batting first Glangrwyney’s Tim Jones observed most of the opening stand of 36 with Mike Devoy, and then played an equal part in a stand of 74 with Drew Heffernan, The innings closing at 143-5, which was thought was possibly 20 -30 runs short of a good target.

In reply Wormelow lost a couple of early wickets before Bannerman added 62 with Worsley, and 33 with R.Jones, Jones and Cuttler seeing the home side to victory. Glangrwney’s main bowlers kept things in check, Mike Devoy rotating the bowlers to try and disrupt the batsmen’s rhythm but to no avail on this day.
