Glangrwyney CC 1sts 172-9 (Revised target 145) Woolhope CC 1sts 146-2
SATURDAY saw Glangrwyney 1st team at home to Herefordshire side Woolhope 1st’s.
Batting first Glangrwyney accumulated runs steadily, Ryan Sharp and Mike Devoy adding 69 for the third wicket.
Following Sharp’s departure Devoy failed to find a partner to stay with him and wickets fell steadily before a rain shower brought the innings to an early end. For Woolhope Richard Watts was the most successful bowler, with Chris Watts and Will Tanner picking up two a piece.
The rain persisted through the tea break and played into Woolhope’s hands, the umpire’s setting a reduced overs target, which allowed them to play more positively with a smaller total required, and despite the loss of two early wickets Will Tanner striking the days top score to see his side home with a couple of overs to spare.
Mike Devoy picked up the two wickets to fall, and remarkably the fourth caught and bowled of the day, the other bowlers working hard but with no success.
Meanwhile, at Woolhope their 2nd team were entertaining Glangrwney 2nds.
Batting first Woolhope made a good start M.Foster adding 50 with Z.Pullen, and 30 with C.Price.
Following Fosters departure Glangrwyney’s bowlers picked up wickets regularly, however C.Price proved a thorn in the side batting through until the last over ending up with the days top individual score.
For Glangrwyney Eryl Cooke picked up three wickets, with Jack Hooper and Mark Keane two apiece, Hadyn Davies bowling accurately as always with no success.
In reply, Glangrwyney made a steady start to their reply on a wicket that became lower and slower as the afternoon went on. Neil Turner top scored with a well grafted 70, with support from Lewis.Morgan, and Nate Powell.
Simon Hindle batted well in the middle order however with runs difficult to get, the visitors had to settle for a losing draw and some valuable points gained.
