Brecon Cricket Club’s new Sunday XI has brought back teas, blooded youngsters, and given casual cricketers a crack at the whip, writes Dan Gee.

But last weekend, they were the catalyst for a revival in the shape of Talgarth Cricket Club, which sadly folded over a decade ago.

Thanks to the efforts of Brecon’s chairman, Mike Haire, a phoenix-style XI came together to take the field.

The team, featuring award-winning landscape designers and former hosts of the BBC’s Garden Rescue, the Rich Brothers, grasped the opportunity, making hay and winning with an over to spare.

But in truth, the score didn’t matter. At a time when clubs, pubs and shops are struggling, the real achievement was a Talgarth team blooming after a long time in the shadows, and the shoots of growth were fantastic to see.
