POWYS residents are being encouraged to support the Cardiff Blues with a special cut price ticket offer.

The Arms Park side is offering the county's residents the chance to watch their Heineken Cup match with French side Montpellier for just £10.

Cardiff, who moved back to their historic city centre ground over the summer having previously played their home games since 2009 at the Cardiff City Stadium, see the Sunday, December 9 game, that kicks off at 12.45pm, as the perfect opportunity re-connect with traditional supporters.

The club admitted unpopular Friday night kick off times have deterred rugby supporters from areas such as Powys from attending Rabo Pro Direct league matches, and is hoping to appeal to traditional supporters with the £10 terrace ticket offer.

Cardiff Blues chief executive Richard Holland said: "Unfortunately due to the kick off times of Friday night matches our supporters from the north of the region cannot come down to watch matches as often as they would like.

"We felt that with the Montpellier Heineken Cup match kicking off at 12.45 on a Sunday this was the ideal match for supporters from Powys to travel down to watch some top class rugby and do some Christmas shopping.

"The Terrace ticket offer is our small way of saying thank you to them. I hope a lot of supporters take up the offer for what I'm sure will be an exciting match in Europe's premier club competition."

He also praised the side's supporter base in the county, adding: "We always enjoy tremendous backing from our supporters in Powys, as is always evident by the warm welcome we receive every year when we attend the Royal Welsh Show in Builth Wells.

"We also develop rugby talent in the area with Brecon boy Sam Hobbs being the latest product to come through the system.

"Sam is showing great form for the Blues since coming back from injury."

Prop forward Hobbs who hails from Brecon, has also put his weight behind the ticket offer.

He said: "I think it's a great idea to offer our supporters in Powys a reduced price ticket for the Montpellier match.

"It's a big Heineken Cup match for us and I've no doubt it will be a hard game but one that we are all looking forward to.

"Hopefully we will have a good crowd down at the Arms Park and it's a convenient time for families or partners to arrange a shopping trip together as well."

Supporters living in Powys who wish to make the most of this exclusive offer can call the Cardiff Blues Ticket Office on 029 20 30 20 30. Ticket must be purchased in advance and there is a £1.50 booking fee per ticket.
