Brecon Corries 2 Merthyr Saints 3.

Following an impressive 2-0 win last week against their nearest rivals, Penydarren, Brecon Corries hosted another derby match against Merthyr saints.

Having been beaten by the Saints 4-1 earlier in the season, the Corries were hoping to put that defeat to bed.

They started the game the brightest and came close several times only to be denied by the woodwork a couple of times and the goalkeeper saving several good goal bound shots.

The deadlock was broken when a Gareth Aplin corner was headed home by Paul Keddle.

What happened next is a mystery to anyone watching as the home side went 2-1 down after being caught out by two long balls.

At half time the score was 2-1 to the visitors.

The second half was a one sided affair which saw Merthyr Saints camped in their own half but dealt with the Corries pressure well. The woodwork, keeper and a goal line clearance all denied the home side levelling the tie.

Again they were caught out defensively again and Merthyr saints took a 3-1 to the bemusement of everyone watching.

They did get back in the game after a fine Gareth Aplin strike to make it 3-2 but it wasn’t to be their day despite the pressure and numerous chances which on another day would surely have seen them take all three points.

This weekend, the Corries host AFC Butetown.
