Hay St Mary's marked the end of the 2024/25 campaign by hosting two invitational cup finals at their Forest Road headquarters and also presented the end of season awards to the border club's senior and junior sections.

It has been a tough season of transition for Hay St Mary's first team in the MMP Central Wales League (South) but they concluded the campaign by beating Knighton Town Reserves 4-1 in the Gateway Cup final.

The Saints broke the deadlock after seven minutes when Darren Horrigan found the back of the net with a low drive from the edge of the penalty area. The hosts then doubled their advantage 15 minutes later through Ricky Lynes.

Knighton Town Reserves’ Henry Shaw reduced the deficit three minutes after the half-time break.

But Hay St Mary's regained their two-goal advantage in the 78th minute when Lynes latched on to a long clearance from Tom Lewis in the home goal before running through on goal.

Victory for the Saints was secured with three minutes remaining on the clock when Ollie Powell headed home from a late corner.

Saints captain Darren Horrigan was presented with the Gateway Cup by Martin Tong and Jack Cook was named as player of the match following the final whistle.

Presteigne St Andrews began the day by lifting the Ron Ellis Cup after defeating hosts Hay St Mary's Reserves 5-1 in the first final.

The visitors opened the scoring in the 14th minute through Sezer Cakmak, before the Presteigne St Andrews forward doubled the lead nine minutes later.

The hosts halved the deficit 10 minutes after the interval when defender Dan Jones headed home.

However, Presteigne St Andrews secured the silverware with three goals in the last 10 minutes of the final through Reuben Lloyd, Fin Osoylu and Cakmak with his hat-trick.

Former Hay St Mary's chairman, manager and player, Martin Tong, was on hand to present the Ron Ellis Cup, named in honour of his late grandfather and the player of the match award to hat-trick hero Cakmak for the visitors.

Between the two finals, Hay St Mary's presented individual awards to the first and reserve teams in the club's senior section and took the opportunity to mark the success of their age-group teams in the junior section.

The under-12s were crowned South Powys Junior League champions for their age group and defeated Builth Wells in the League Cup final.

Hay St Mary's under-13s won their section in the South Powys Junior League and were also crowned Winter League champions. However, they missed out on a treble after by defeated by Builth Wells in the League Cup final.

Finally, the Saints' under-16s team finished top their division in the South Powys Junior League and overcame Builth Wells in the League Cup final to complete their own double this season.

The club continue to develop further next term with plans to run three teams in adult football as the Watson Financial Mid Wales League (South) returns to the local football landscape.
