WATSON FINANCIAL MID WALES LEAGUE (SOUTH)
Craig Evans fired a hat-trick as Brecon Northcote kept the pressure on Talgarth Town at the top of the Watson Financial Mid Wales league (South) with a 6-0 home success over Penybont Reserves. Northcote scored three times in each half and are five points behind leaders, Talgarth Town with a game in hand, Guy Williams opened the scoring on Saturday with Craig and Jack Evans extending the lead by half-time. Craig Evans completed his treble after the break before Dan Henneghan completed the six hit.
Talgarth remain top but were made to work hard for a 2-0 home verdict over a determined Newcastle. Both goals came in the first half with Scott Pavey grabbing the first after Kyle O’Shea had been denied. OÕShea then netted the second when Gethin Davies slipped him in after a flowing Talgarth move.
Hay St Marys maintained their challenge with all the goals coming in the second half of a 5-0 win at bottom of the table, St Harmon. Having played into a strong wind in the first half, Hay went on to dominate the second period and Kevin Jones fired them ahead with a superb 40 yard free-kick. Chris Preece added a second when he headed in a Kyle Harding corner and another Harding corner saw Rob McNamara volley number three. Stuart Rees and a second for McNamara completed the tally before St Harmon were reduced to ten with Josh Rees sent off for remarks to referee Joe Lewis.
Knighton Town Reserves kept alive their hopes of honours with a 4-2 home win against Llandrindod Wells Reserves. Dan Farmer, who has returned to Knighton following a spell with Presteigne, and Billy Hyett put The Robins two up but Jeff Jones pulled one back for the Spa men before half-time. Harry Worton and Jack Brindley however struck for Knighton after the break to virtually secure the spoils before Rhys Davies grabbed a second for Llandrindod.
Llanidloes Town Reserves suffered a second successive league defeat, beaten 3-1 at Rhayader Town Reserves on Friday night to see their title chances all but disappear. Kieran Matthews netted for The Daffs while Alan Samuel scored twice for Rhayader whose other goal came from Jordan McFadden, who was delighted to get on the scoresheet for the first time since his return from long term injury.
