Presteigne St Andrews 3, Brecon Northcote 1
Presteigne St Andrews FC gained their first victory of the new season when they hosted Brecon Northcote at Llanandras Park in a midweek fixture.
The Stags, who finished third in division two last season, lost a number of players over the summer and were defeated 5-1 in their opener at Borth United on Saturday despite taking the early lead.
At Llanandras it was the home side who scored first through Duane Anning who completed his hat-trick before half-time.
Anning had also netted in Presteigne’s 2-2 draw at Machynlleth on Saturday where manager Shaun Harris’ side twice had to come from behind.
Curtis Williams, who was on the score sheet on Saturday, replied for the Northcote in the second half with Jack Evans assisting him.
Following the game Northcote described their performance as "much improved and encouraging".
Presteigne host Waterloo Rovers on Saturday (2.30pm) while Northcote continue their summer tour of mid Wales as a clash with the cricket season means they cannot stage home games in the early season.
The Brecon team make the long treck north to Four Crosses on Saturday (also 2.30pm).
Presteigne Reserves play their first competitive match of the summer tonight when they head to Llanidloes Town Reserves to contest the Summer Cup final.
