SPAR MID WALES LEAGUE DIVISION 1

It was a good day for Radnorshire clubs in the Spar Mid Wales League first division with Knighton Town, Llandrindod Wells and Radnor Valley all picking up three points. In-form Radnor made it five wins in a row with an emphatic 8-2 success against a disappointing Machynlleth. Callum Matthews bagged a hat-trick and Geraint Lloyd, Dewi Allen, Steve Morgan, Matt Croose and Liam Jones also got in on the act.

Knighton Town pulled off a fine 5-0 win against Berriew on Friday night with Connor Bird giving them an interval lead.

Berriew did have their chances in that first half but Knighton were clinical after the break with Mark Jones netting twice while Sam Williams and Ieuan Crowe completed the nap hand.

Llandrindod Wells saw their scheduled fixture at Borth United switched to Aberystwyth Town’s 3G pitch and the Spa men did not mind as they ran out 3-0 winners. Goals from Kieran McCarley and Kejan Foryszewski towards the end of the first half put Llandrindod in control. Borth tried to get back in the game in the second period but Llandrndod were solid at the back and Michael Watkins wrapped up the points with a third goal in the closing minutes.

Llanidloes Town remain top of Division One following an excellent 3-1 home success over Llanfair United. The Daffs went in front when a cross from Richie Evans led to an own goal but Ben Jones levelled for Llanfair at the end of the first half. Llanidloes were dominant after the break and Harri Clarke headed them back in front before Evans secured the spoils with a stunning 25 yard strike.

Second placed Welshpool Town continue to impress and romped to a 6-1 victory at Kerry. Wil Thomas scored twice with Dan Bowen, Ian Probert, Ricky Lichfield and Adam Davies completing the six hit while Mark Hughes gained Kerry’s consolation.

Llanrhaeadr are keeping the pressure on the top two and defeated Tywyn Bryncrug 5-0 at home. Player-manager, Marc Griffiths gave the Tanat Valley side an early lead and netted again in the second half. Kieran Evans made it three and Daniel Graham netted twice to complete the win.

Surprise result of the day was at Carno where the hosts fell to a 6-2 defeat at the hands of lowly Aberaeron. Mattie Davies and Chris Adritt twice put Aberaeron ahead in the first half but Harry Holt and Peter Rees replied to make it 2-2 at half-time. Aberaeron however scored four unanswered goals after the break through Davies, Chris Wilkins, Dan James and Mikey Gornall to notch only their second win of the term.

Bow Street and Churchstoke drew 1-1 with Mark Gornall’s first half penalty for Street cancelled out by Joe Haycock.

SPAR MID WALES LEAGUE DIVISION 2

Hay St Marys returned to winning ways with a 3-1 home success against local rivals, Talgarth Town in the Spar Mid Wales League second division on Friday night. The Saints were in front inside the first minute with Kevin Jones scoring with a looping header. Darren Horrigan added a second with a fine 20 yard effort but Talgarth pulled one back. Chris Preece was, he felt, harshly penalised for hand ball and Kyle O’Shea netted from the penalty spot. Matty Tong regained Hay’s two goal advantage from 20 yards following a quick Will Goodwin throw-in and that’s how it stayed although Talgarth might have got a second after the break but O’Shea headed over with the goal at his mercy.

Builth Wells extended their lead at the top of the table to five points with an impressive 3-0 win at Aberystwyth University. Richie Powell scored twice and Josh Price also found the net for the Lant men who played much of the game in torrential rain.

Brecon Northcote are finding their feet and chalked a surprisingly easy 5-0 win over Abermule. Craig Evans bagged a hat-trick and it was a real family affair as twin Corey also got on the scoresheet along with elder brother, Joel who scored a penalty.

Newbridge suffered an agonising 5-4 defeat at home against Dyffryn Banw. After going two down early on, The Villagers were always behind but Aeron Powell (2), Alfie Stonefield and Ryan Lawrence made a good fist of it. For Banw, Tom Foulkes registered a hat-trick with Rhodri Davies and Harri Evans also netting.

Penybont are still searching for their first point after a 5-1 home defeat against Llansantffraid Village. Nathan Prodger starred with a four goal haul for the visitors and Wayne Austin was also on target with George McCarthy Allen netting for Penybont.

Presteigne were frustrated as their scheduled clash at Montgomery Town was postponed with te hime side unable to raise a side.

WATSON FINANCIAL MID WALES LEAGUE (SOUTH)

Builth Wells Reserves just fell short as they were beaten 4-3 at home by Watyson Financial Mid Wales Leage (South) League leaders, Llanidloes Town Reserves. Rhys Evans fired a first half hat-trick for The Daffs and Conrad Galloway extended the lead. Builth however hit back with two goals from Dave Thomas and one from Aron Walters but ran of of time.

Llanidloes have won won six out of six but hot on their heels are Rhayader Town who hammered Felindre 11-0 at The Weirglodd to make it five from five in the league. Jamie Evans led the way with a hat-trick and there were two goals each for Gareth Hughes and Michael Fowlie with Richard Davies, Aaran bates, Ryan Addison and Marc Wozencraft completing the tally.

St Harmon climbed into third spot in the table with a 3-1 home verdict over Brecon Northcote Reserves. Geraint Mathias netted twice for the second week in a row and Hywel Watson was also on target with Adam Tester gaining Northcote’s consolation.

Presteigne Reserves are up to mid table after goals from Chad Canning secured a 2-0 win at Llandrindod Wells Reserves on Friday night.
