Radnor Valley needed a late equaliser from Joey Price to salvage a point in a 2-2 draw against bottom of the table Lex XI in the Ardal League North East.
The Goats made a bright start with Jack Clarke handing them an early lead when Lewis Morris slipped him through on goal following a slick move by the home side. But it went downhill from there and Mthulisi Ndlovu equalised and Kieran Jones then fired Lex in front when his 25-yard effort flew into the top corner past Radnor’s debutant keeper Jordan Bailey.
Sam Sainsbury and Joey Price both tested the giant visiting keeper Joey Jones in the second half but it looked as if Lex were on course for their first win of the season against a below par Radnor. That was until Price struck, rifling home a trademark free-kick from the edge of the box on the 90-minute mark to give the Goats a point they hardly deserved.
Knighton Town are up to second in the table following a 3-1 verdict over Mid Wales rivals Kerry at Bryn-y-Castell. The Radnor Robins extended their unbeaten league run to eight with Kieran Dovey scoring twice before Callum Stead sealed the win.
Knighton took the lead inside the first minute when a mistake by a Kerry defender allowed Dovey in to slot home. Kerry were soon back on terms with former Llanidloes Town midfielder, Ed Clarke nodding in at the far post following a long throw-in.
There was little to choose between the teams after that but Dovey put Knighton ahead again on 71 minutes, twisting and turning to make space to fire his second of the afternoon. And there was no way back for Kerry when Callum Stead added a third after latching on to a lovely through-ball from Luke Boundford.
The victory puts Knighton in good heart for this weekend’s huge clash at leaders Llanuwchllyn, as the two unbeaten sides in the division go head to head.
Tom Durant scored his first goal of the season deep into stoppage time and it was enough to earn Llandrindod Wells back-to-back draws as they held high-flying Corwen 1-1 on The Broadway.
Corwen had the better of the first half and deservedly led at half-time thanks to a superb free-kick from Tom Mann. Llandrindod showed more attacking intent after the break inspired by captain Shaun Nicholls, who was outstanding at both ends of the pitch, while goalkeeper James Barker picked up Ray King’s Man of the Match award. Their persistence finally paid off four minutes into stoppage time when Will Cleaton’s cross found Nicholls, whose header set Durant up for his late leveller.
Llanuwchllyn marched on at the top with a 5-0 win at Penycae where Meilir Williams, the league’s top scorer, completed yet another hat-trick and Will Owen and Gwydion Ifan were also on target.
Shock of the day was at Llanrhaeadr where Michael Barton’s side notched a 4-1 victory over Cefn Albion, who had started the day second in the table. It started well enough for Albion when Dion Gibbins put them ahead but Llanrhaeadr stormed back through Will Roberts-Morris, Billy Clarke, Will Howard and Jacob Edwards.
Elsewhere Llanfair United saw their four-match unbeaten run ended losing 2-0 at home to Rhos Aelwyd who scored through Aled Parry and Ryan Jenkins.
