Llandrindod Wells are the 2016-2017 Aspidistra Radnorshire Cup winners following a well deserved 3-1 success over Llanidloes Town in Easter Sunday’s Final played at Rhayader Town’s Weirglodd. Llanidloes had gone into the game on the back of a six match unbeaten run but failed to turn up and it was The Spa men who lifted the trophy to continue their fine end of season run.

Llandrindod took the lead on the stroke of half-time when Darren Murphy netted a diving header from a Johnny Williams cross to silence the vocal Llanidloes supporters. Player-manager, Gareth Jones, outstanding for Llandrindod throughout, added a second with a header from Kieran McCarley’s corner.

Llanidloes tried to get back in the game but found Llandrindod ‘keeper, Andy Leonard in good form while brothers, Shaun and Daryl Nicholls were in commanding form in the heart of the Spa defence.

The Cup was on its way back to The Broadway when Elliot Williams and Johnny Williams combined to set up Robbie Nicholls. His effort was well saved by Aaron Warwick but Kieran McCarley snapped up the rebound. Llanidloes never gave up and Josh Evans pulled one back following a corner with virtually the last kick but it was too little too late for The Daffs.
