MMP MID WALES LEAGUE DIVISION 1

Josh Price scored twice as Builth Wells made it back to back wins in the MMP Mid Wales League first division with a 4-3 success at 10-man Kerry.

Will Cleaton and Richie Powell were also on target as Builth moved up three places in the league table with The Lambs having their goalkeeper sent off before half-time for handling outside the box.

Builth forged an early two goal lead through Richie Powell and Josh Price but Matt Muford pulled one back for Kerry early in the second half. Price added his second and Cleaton also struck to all but clinch the points although Kerry themselves scored twice from set pieces through Jonathan O’Rourke.

In the only other Division One game at the week-end, Radnor Valley took the chance to go second in the table with Joey Price bagging a hat-trick in a comfortable 5-0 home win against Tywyn Bryncrug. The visitors are currently in free fall having gone into Saturday’s clash with eight straight league defeats to their name and Radnor were never going to slip up. Joey Price gave them the lead, blasting home from the penalty spot after brother, Ieuan had been brought down by the visiting ‘keeper. Price then turned provider crossing for Callum Davies to head a second before half-time. Joey Price converted his second penalty after Elliot Williams was brought down and Elliot Morris extended the lead with a good strike from the edge of the box before a surging run saw Joey Price complete his hat-trick and Radnor’s ninth league win from eleven starts.

MMP MID WALES LEAGUE DIVISION 2

Newbridge and Hay St Marys continue to set the pace at the top of the MMP Mid Wales League second division following wins at the week-end. Newbridge remain top after completing a quickfire double over the students of Aberystwyth University with a 3-0 win at Penbont Field. With topscorer, Ollie Woods missing through holiday, captain, Aeron Powell stepped up to the plate with two goals while Dave Thomas was also on target.

It was a fifth straight win for Newbridge whose coach, Scott Davies said: “It was pleasing to keep another clean sheet as we were conceding a lot of goals earlier in the season.” Newbridge have let just one goal in in their last four league games.

Hay are the topscorers in Division two and were impressive 6-1 winners at Dolgellau. The Saints, who are just a point behind Newbridge, but have two games in hand, virtually pocketed the points in the first half when they forged a four goal lead. Jack Biggs opened the scoring, Matty Tong weighed in with a brace and Brendan Hackett also netted with Biggs missing a penalty on the stroke of half-time. Tom James and Adi Lawford scored in the second half before Sion Lloyd gained a consolation for Dolgellau.

Rhayader Town extended their recent unbeaten run to three with a 1-1 draw at Abermule. Player-manager, Gareth Hughes gave The Red Kites the lead from Aaron Bates’ corner on 35 minutes. But Rhayader tired in the second half with a number of players playing their fifth game in seven days and Adam Williams grabbed a late equaliser for the hosts with a draw being a fair result in the end.

Earlier in the week, Rhayader had recorded a comfortable 4-1 home success over Aberystwyth University. First half goals from Mark Davies and Dan Goodman had put them in control and an own goal and a Taylor Wozencraft strike doubled that lead before James Stuart gained a consolation for the students.

Presteigne St Andrews failed to build on the previous week’s win against Abermule going down in a 6-5 thriller at Borth United. They could have been given little chance after trailing 4-0 at half-time but might easily have picked up a point after scoring five second half goals. Tom Crichton (2), Jordan Cooper, Duanne Anning and Tom Lewis (pen) were the goalscorers for Presteigne whose Curtis Williams saw a penalty saved. Ryan Davies completed a hat-trick with Gethin Ap Dafydd, Bryn Oliver and Clive Morgan also netting for Borth.

In the day’s other Division Two game, Waterloo Rovers came away from Dyffryn Banw with a 1-0 win thanks to Nathan James who scored the all important goal.

WATSON FINANCIAL MID WALES LEAGUE (SOUTH)

Talgarth Town maintained their 100% record at the top of the Watson Financial Mid Wales League (South) with a 9-0 win over bottom of the table Felindre. The writing was on the wall for the visitors when Gavin Perry gave Talgarth the lead straight from the kick off and the league leaders never looked back. Harry Sharman robbed a defender to tee Ben Sharman up for a second and Perry added his second with a dipping free-kick. Harry Sharman beat the off-side trap to extend the lead before half-time and there was no respite for Felindre after the break. A Rob Evans free-kick and a Jordan Harvey penalty added further misery to Felindre before Steff Price and Alex Simmonds completed the tally.

Newcastle remain second but had to come from a goal down to triumph 5-1 at Brecon Northcote. Tom Morgan had given Northcote an interval lead but Newcastle, like Talgarth, are unbeaten in the league, and stormed back through Tom Bright, Mark Jones, Calum Evans, Bryan Barker-Jones and player-manager, Craig Morris.

Penybont and Builth Wells maintained their recent form to stay in the leading pack with Penybont edging a 2-1 victory in their local derby against Llandrindod Wells Reserves where Matty James grabbed the winner for The Polecats. Alfie Stonefield had given Penybont the lead but Cori Davies levelled for Llandrindod.

Two goals from Gethin Jarman earned Builth Wells Reserves a 2-0 home success over St Harmon and Daryl Wood’s side are now unbeaten in seven in the league while Presteigne Reserves made a timely return to winning ways with a surprisingly easy 5-1 victory against Llanidloes Town Reserves on Friday night. Tom Lewis netted twice and Louis Gilpin, Jordan Griffiths and Jack Brindley completed the nap hand with Mason Jones gaining a consolation for The Daffs.

Knighton Town made it back to back wins in a narrow 4-3 success at Hay St Marys Reserves. Topscorer, Chris Assirati had given The Saints the lead but Knighton turned things around with two goals from the in-form, Owen Holdsworth and one each from Harry Worton and Dan Farmer. But The Radnor Robins had to endure a few anxious late moments after Assisrati scored twice more to complete his hat-trick for Hay.
