MMP MID WALES LEAGUE DIVISION 1
Builth Wells made it back to back wins in the MMP Mid Wales League first division with a 3-1 home success over Welshpool Town. The Bulls, who were due to make the short trip to Radnor Valley last night (Tuesday) remain on course for a top six finish although focus this week will more on Good Friday’s League Cup semi-final clash with Carno.
Manager, Dylan McPhee felt Saturday’s performance against Welshpool was their best of the season with Richie Powell setting Brad Rollionson up for the opening goal.
Joel Metcalf added a second but Wil Thomas immediately pulled one back for Welshpool. Jack Hammond regained Builth’s two goal lead in the second half with a header from Sam Williams’ corner and Williams hit both bar and post in the second half as Builth won with ease.
Radnor Valley slipped to a narrow 1-0 home defeat at the hands of Aberaeron who staged a smash and grab at School Lane with Ifan Burrell bagging a late winner. It was a typical end of season affair with Aberaeron goalkeeper, Ollie Fairbrother however having to make two fine second half saves before Burrell netted the all important goal.
Llandrindod Wells were also beaten 1-0 at home by Caersws who remain second in the table but have just one game remaining. Tom Richards was the match winner for The Bluebirds, his goal coming midway through the second half.
Berriew also stay in the hunt for honours and they too were 1-0 winners at the week-end with Joe Haycock scoring late on to snatch a 1-0 victory at Bow Street.
MMP MID WALES LEAGUE DIVISION 2
Newbridge signed off for the summer with a 3-2 defeat at Four Crosses in the MMP Mid Wales League second division.
But coach, Scott Powell was delighted with the performance against the high fliers and said: “I was gutted for the boys as they gave everything and if it had not been for a rather harsh red card for Aled Powell we would have probably got at least a point.”
Jamie Evans had twice put Four Crosses ahead but Newbridge hit back through Powell and Ollie Woods before Gareth Jones grabbed a late winner for Crosses who are now just two points behind Hay St Marys with a game in hand in the race for the second promotion spot.
Rhayader drew 1-1 at Machynlleth in what was a pretty uneventful end of season encounter. Jack Bright gave The Red Kites an interval lead when he converted a superb Gareth Hughes cross at the far post.
The Machynlleth ‘keeper pulled off several fine saves and Rhayader squandered chances in the second half before Alex Jarman levelled for the hosts.
Abermule picked up three points with a 4-2 home success over Dolgellau. Adam Williams, Tommy Jones, Jack Jarman and Adam Putson netted for Abermule with Charlie Owen and Sion Lloyd responding for Dolgellau who themselves had triumphed 6-4 at Machynlleth in midweek.
Owain Williams completed a hat-trick with David Edwards, Sion Lloyd and Ifan Jones completing the six hit. Paul Jones (2), Simon Davies and Callum Roberts were the Machynlleth marksmen.

Talgarth received the Championship trophy after the game from League sponsor, Roger Watson whose support for Mid Wales football is invaluable. Mr Watson also presented the McCartneys Cup, awarded to the league’s top goalscorer, to Harry Sharman.

It was hard to take for Presteigne who had trailed 2-1 at half-time before levelling to force extra-time when an own goal settled the tie.
