STEVE Morgan scored the only goal as Radnor Valley lifted the Aspidistra Radnorshire Cup for the first time in their history with a 1-0 victory over local rivals, Knighton Town.

In front of a bumper Easter Sunday crowd at Presteigne’s Llanandras Park, Morgan headed in a Callum Matthews cross two minutes into the second half.

Knighton had dominated the opening exchanges and Shaun Prince had a fine volley saved by Will Fowden while Connor Bird had strong penalty appeals turned down with Knighton adamant he was tripped after breaking into the box.

In what was a feisty Final, Radnor however grew into the game and grabbed the all important goal at the start of the second half although Knighton again felt a refereeing decision went against them arguing that the ball had gone out of play before Matthews pulled it back.

Radnor manager, Paul Morgan said he did not think the ball had gone out and overall felt his side were deserved winners.

After the goal Radnor were happy to soak up Knighton‘ s attacks and defended well with The Robins always dangerous from set pieces but Radnor stood firm to land The County Cup for the first time in their ninety-seven year history.
